mEducation provides students, teachers, employees and all learners with the ability to learn anywhere, anytime and on the move with educational content made available over mobile networks to devices such as tablets, smart phones and feature phones.

The traditional learning environment is rapidly being transformed by non-traditional mobile technology environments that will shape the future of education. mEducation represents a powerful shift in the way education is delivered and received. It encompasses not only how learning is being delivered but enhances teaching & assessment plus educational administration and management via mobile technologies.

The GSMA mEducation project seeks to address market barriers and accelerate the adoption of mEducation solutions around the world. Assisting mobile operators, content providers, education institutes and governments come together to realise the massive potential of this growing industry.

Unlocking the $11.5 billion Asian Market

Asia is experiencing the highest growth rate for mEducation in the world at 17.3%. Revenues reached $5.2 billion in 2011 and will more than double to $11.5 billion by 2016*. This is due to the massive content digitization efforts across the school systems in every country in the region and the large-scale deployments of tablets in the academic segments.

Asia sees a healthy demand for mobile learning in the corporate segment and a strong demand for digital English language learning products in both the academic and consumers segments across the region.
