GSMA’s Embedded SIM Protection Profile gets security certification

You might remember we went ‘under the hood’ of the GSMA Embedded SIM Specification recently to look at a critical area called the ‘Protection Profile’ (PP). The PP ensures that the specification is as secure as a SIM card and can detect a security problem if one arises ensuring that the Embedded SIM product or eUICC is robust against security threats.
The GSMA’s Protection Profile recently underwent a rigorous evaluation and certification process conducted by BSI (The German Federal Office for Information Security) which we are now delighted to be able to inform you that it passed with flying colours. The certification provides more assurance to the market that the GSMA Embedded SIM Specification is secure and that it can be used by the market with confidence.
The GSMA is committed to ensuring that the Specification is globally recognised and the de facto market standard and this process is another layer to simplify the process, encourage ease of use and help more companies to use it. Ultimately it will help billions of devices to be connected simply, securely and safely. You can read about the certification here.
The Embedded SIM Specification will be a focal point in the Mobile World Congress 2016 seminar: ‘Connected Living seminar: The Internet of Things: Today and Tomorrow’. In this session you will hear from both mobile operators and customers on the benefits which have been realised since the launch of the Embedded SIM Specification, as well as best practices and lessons learned from real world experiences.
