Orange Cash launched nationwide in France

Following a successful initial launch in Caen, Lille, Nice, Strasbourg and Rennes in 2014, Orange has confirmed its commitment to mobile payment in France by launching Orange Cash nationwide in partnership with Visa and supported by Wirecard Group.

Orange Cash is the first prepaid NFC mobile payment solution from a mobile operator in France. It is a rechargeable account obtained by downloading the free Orange Cash application to a smartphone. Orange Cash users with NFC-enabled smartphones just need to tap and pay to make simple, secure everyday payments in all stores which accept contactless payment and on websites accepting Visa Cards.

Orange Cash is available at 324,000 points of sales across France. Customers can also receive information on exclusive offers from Orange Cash partners. The application displays deals located nearby, so users can take advantage of offers from stores like Relay, Etam, Paul and Picard who are participating actively in the launch phase to support the new mobile payment service in France.

Orange Cash uses Visa contactless technology and is operated by the Wirecard group and Wirecard Card Solutions, a member of Visa Europe. It offers a level of security identical to a bank contactless card, thanks to the SIM card supplied by Orange. A PIN code is required for payments of over €20, however users can also activate their PIN for all payments of €1 and above. If a user’s phone is stolen, they can immediately block the Orange Cash service by calling the dedicated Orange Cash customer service 24/7.

The strategic partnership between Orange and Visa Europe is the expression of these two market leaders’ drive to accelerate the deployment of mobile payment in France by offering customers a unique, innovative and secure payment experience.

The GSMA Digital Commerce programme showcased the Orange Cash app at recent events including Mobile 360 Series Africa and Mobile 360 Series Middle East where it generated huge interest from participants.
