The GSMA has organised a collaborative initiative supported by leading mobile operators in China, Japan and Korea including China Mobile, KT, NTT DOCOMO, SK Telecom, KPN and Verizon, to assess various important aspects of VoLTE Roaming with S8 HR and LBO VR (Local Break Out, Visited network Routing) models.
Basic functional test cases are included in Phase 1 of the trial, e.g. registration, deregistration, voice call and video call. The outcome of the trial will provide more information to other GSMA working groups to their further study of VoLTE Roaming models. Phase 1 of the trial aims to be completed by MWC2015 and the test report will be shared with GSMA Members. The scope of Phase 2 will be defined after MWC 2015. More test cases and roaming scenarios will be considered. The final goal is to validate S8 HR as VoLTE roaming option.
