Network Interconnection of Rich Communication Services between Orange France and SFR

Mobile operators Orange France and SFR have interconnected their networks to deliver Rich Communications Services (RCS) on native devices. This means customers can chat, content share, group chat, video share and experience integrated messaging across networks.

The interconnection came after a series of significant steps by the operators. Orange France initially launched RCS in 2013 when the solution was only available to consumers as downloadable app. In 2015 both Orange and SFR upgraded their services to a native implementation of joyn Blackbird, launching with flagship devices from Samsung and Sony (Z2 and Z3).

To interconnect IP messaging, content and video sharing across networks, Orange is using their core IMS structure and interconnecting with SFR via a hosted solution from Jibe mobile.
