GSMA demonstrates potential of digital authentication solution Mobile Connect during Futurecom 2015

More than 14,000 participants from 50 countries met in São Paulo from 26 to 29 October at Futurecom 2015, the most important regional event for Latin America’s ICT industry. GSMA had a strong presence at the congress, where its stand was a meeting point for mobile operator and mobile ecosystem representatives.

The GSMA stand at Futurecom 2015 gave visitors a first-hand opportunity to try Mobile Connect, the digital authentication solution that lets users log in to online services through their mobile without the need to use personal information or remember multiple passwords. Mobile Connect will be the new standard for digital authentication and identity, as it allows mobile operators to offer users a safer log-in system while protecting their privacy.

During the panel ‘Digital Business: what are the challenges and the next steps?’, GSMA Strategic Engagement Director, Valter Wolf, highlighted the importance of this solution to simplify online transactions, guarantee their security and boost mobile commerce. ‘Mobile Connect combines the user’s mobile number and a PIN to verify and authenticate their identity, without any personal data being shared,’ Wolf explained.

Also present at Futurecom 2015 was José Antonio Aranda, GSMA Technology Director for Latin America, who detailed some of the results of GSMA research in China, the United States and Europe. According to reports, 87 per cent of survey subjects would prefer a single password to remember and 86 per cent said they had left a site when asked to register. Similarly, 86 per cent said they were concerned about security while online.

Mobile Connect provides simple, safe access to online services, regardless of the device (phone, tablet or PC) or the operator. ‘GSMA is confident of the success of this innovative solution and expects to have the service available for a billion users worldwide by the time of Mobile World Congress 2016 in Barcelona, in February,’ Aranda said.
