The four day event will be a series of plenary sessions and working group meetings delivering actionable insights to increase digital and financial inclusion, as well as drive social, economic and environmental impact through commercial mobile services. Although we will be drawing on case studies and expertise from different regions, there will be a spotlight on Bangladesh. This event plans to attract representatives from the mobile industry, the government, the private, humanitarian, and innovation sectors and from academia. Day 1 Policy frameworks in Bangladesh Unleashing growth from mobile: towards effective spectrum planning, management and harmonization
Day 2 M4D Plenary: Offering Local Content
We will be discussing how we do this in the mobile for development sector, looking at technology and platforms and barriers in accessing local content.
mAgri
In this session we will be looking at the mobile agriculture market opportunity and fundamental principles of mAgri service development: balancing bottom-up innovation with a top-down mandate. We will also be highlighting mAgri Tools and Resources
Mozilla Workshop
In this interactive workshop, Mozilla will present “Appmaker” and other R&D concepts. Operators and others are invited to explore some solutions for enabling more local content creation on mobile.
Day 3 mAgri Workshop
In this session we will be looking at the challenges in user adoption: quantitative and qualitative insights from mAgri services as well as how to design mAgri Services to meet your customers’ needs
Mobile Enabled Community Services Workshop: In this session we will be addressing the barriers to energy/water access in Bangladesh and asking the question ‘Can mobile enable finance of energy products?’ We will also be looking at the role of digital currencies and mobile applications for water
Disaster Response Workshop: In this session we will be looking at global, regional and national insights from the mobile industry with presentations from Flowminder and Grameenphone. We will also breakout into groups to identify challenges and opportunities TBD
Day 4 Field Trip
We have the opportunity to go on a field trip with BRAC to visit some of the projects in rural communities, including their microfinance, health, nutrition, population and education programmes. This will be a full day trip from 7am through to 5pm. If you are interested in attending, please register your interest on the registration form.
