Why enter the joyn Innovation Challenge competition?

Visibility, status and possible monetisation opportunities – the competition is your opportunity to achieve the highest industry status and win exposure of your ideas to the world’s leading operators and telecommunication equipment vendors.

Quite simply, joyn is recognised as one of the most significant opportunities for operators to retain consumer relevance in a mobile market that is under pressure from alternative messaging solutions. Leveraging the unique operator values of an interoperable, quality assured service delivery that serves over 5 billion users, joyn is the starting point for innovation and evolution.

The award for the winner will be presented at one of the high visibility events during the Mobile World Congress, 2013. Additional promotion will include exposure on the GSMA’s Mobile World Live TV channel at the MWC; evaluation by the Operators and RCS Vendors at the show; demonstrations on the GSMA Pavilion exhibition and exposure in the MWC Show Daily publication, read by thousands of visitors each day.

Closing date of the competition is January 8th 2013.

Entries are welcome from as wide an audience of companies as possible. Typical companies and organisations who might consider entry would include but are not limited to Web Client Developers, Mobile Client Developers and Usability Experts, Enterprise focussed developers and system integrators, Individual Technologists, University Technology Departments and Mobile or Fixed Operator Product Development Departments, Social Networking Experts, Service Designers, Social or Anthropological Scientists or Messaging Experts.

How your entry will be judged

Initial entry will require a simple registration process along with a short description of your idea. Entrants will be expected to use the GSMA’s Innovation Accelerator to develop and test their idea. The judges will use the description of your joyn idea to decide on a short list of the best ideas. If you are shortlisted you will be asked to present your idea remotely to the judging panel at an event* on February 5th, 2013, to be held at the GSMA’s headquarters in London. Your innovation should be demonstrated by a ‘mash-up’ of joyn and one or more additional services or network APIs as determined by the entrant.

The judging panel will be looking for a novel joyn service or application that will clearly be seen to enrich the social or business use of communications based on joyn and offer a new and attractive opportunity for mobile and / or fixed line users to share their real-time experiences with a mixture of voice, text, and still or video images. Additionally, it has to demonstrate a genuine value-added dimension with the potential for commercial deployment.

Solutions can be developed for any device operating system (like Android, Apple iOS), or for any web based application. Platform choices must be indicated on your Entry & Registration form. Entrants are encouraged to diversify their entries with innovation presented on more than one platform.

* EXPENSES: Please note all travel, hotel, subsistence and incidental costs to attend, if requested, to participate on the GSMA’s exhibition stand at MWC 2013, must be borne entirely by the entrant.
