Mobile Connect will be available for use with the GSMA’s ‘SDG in Action’ mobile app from February 21st as part of a major update ahead of this year’s Mobile World Congress. Users will now be able to log-in to and use the app simply by entering their mobile phone number. Once registered with Mobile Connect, people will also benefit from being able to use it to log-in securely and conveniently to other services which also support digital identity solution.
The app’s update introduces a variety of new features, most notably an augmented reality game which enables visitors of this year’s Mobile World Congress to collect United Nations Sustainable Development ‘Goals’ (SDGs) scattered throughout event. Prizes will be awarded to participants who complete the challenge, with grand prizes to be awarded at the end of each day.
The new updates have been introduced to raise awareness of and engagement with the United Nations SDGs. Developed by the GSMA in partnership with the UN and Project Everyone, the app highlights the ways in which the mobile industry is helping to achieve these goals. In turn, users are able to discover the latest mobile-led initiatives and also post their own contributions towards the SDGs.
Mobile Connect itself is contributing towards the UN SDG’s by enabling digital inclusion for 1.5 billion unregistered people in the world, most of which are disproportionately located in developing countries. With a strong and growing number of mobile connections in such locations, Mobile Connect provides an ideal solution for helping people gain access to vital services.
At this year’s Mobile World Congress, attendees will have the chance to experience live demonstrations of Mobile Connect’s live applications across the commerce, finance and retail sectors, and discover how the solution is evolving to meet the demands of emerging technologies. Mobile Connect will also be the focus of three industry seminars on the subjects of EU Digital Single Market regulation, combatting fraud and the commercial opportunities and best practices related to Mobile Connect.
