The European Framework for Safer Mobile Use by Younger Teenagers and Children

April 25, 2014 | | Research & Reports | Europe and Central Asia

As growing numbers of mobile operators offer their customers access to a rich and compelling range of content services, they are faced with the challenge of how to manage content which would have been subject to age restrictions if accessed through different channels. To directly address the issue and create a framework within which a wide range of content services can be offered to customers, in 2007 the GSMA and its European mobile operator members developed, with the endorsement of the European Commission, the European Framework for Safer Mobile Use by Younger Teenagers and Children (‘the Safer Mobile Framework’).

For an EU overview of mobile operator codes of conduct on safer mobile use by children, please visit the GSMA Europe website. Many of the codes, particularly in Central, Eastern and Southern Europe, were rolled out following the signature of the European Framework for Safer Mobile Use by Younger Teenagers and Children in February 2007.
