The timings are best estimates from published sources, contact with key stakeholders and understanding of process requirements.
INTERPHONE : The study commenced in 2000, with the first publications in 2004. The first analysis of the combined 13 country data is expected to be published in 2009 and related publications may continue in to 2010.
IARC: The WHO’s specialist agency, the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) has listed RF among the agents to evaluated in future monographs. This process will commence after the INTERPHONE data is published and a review typically takes 12 months.
WHO: The World Health Organization (WHO) EMF project has begun planning for the Environmental Health Criteria (EHC) report for RF. The ICNIRP produced reports in 2009 that will contribute to the EHC process. Completion of the EHC is linked to completion of the IARC monograph review.
ICNIRP: The International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP) works with the WHO to provide advice on safe exposure levels for electromagnetic fields. ICNIRP published guidelines in 1998, which are recommended by the WHO and ITU and form the basis of exposure standards in many countries. ICNIRP keeps the guidelines under regular review and in September 2009 confirmed that the guidelines remain protective against all established health hazards.
