Telecom NZ to launch 700MHz LTE next month

Telecom New Zealand is set to launch 700MHz Long Term Evolution (LTE) technology towards the end of next month, with an initial switch-on via eleven sites in the Waikato region, including central Hamilton, Morrisonville and surrounding areas. Services will then be extended to other regions, Computerworld reports, including areas covered under the government’s Rural Broadband Initiative (RBI), which aims to improve broadband connectivity away from the main towns and cities.

From late August our 700-MHz network will be launched and open for commercial traffic in the Waikato region, where we have already been trialling the technology since May,” said the telco’s chief operating officer David Havercroft, in a statement. “The trial has gone extremely well, with the services performing above expectation and with very high speeds shown,” he said.
