Analogue Switch-Off

ITU Guidance on Digital Switch-Over

The International Telecommunication Union provides detailed guidance to countries switching from analogue to digital television.

A huge amount of technical knowledge and processes have been developed by the ITU, and these are shared with member administrations through ministerial summits, technical workshops, reports, documentation and the ITU website.

Following a clear and rational path towards the digital switch-over is essential, leading to the Digital Dividend and the opportunity to use this freed-up spectrum appropriately to achieve the greatest benefit for society. The point at which digital television is switched on will give viewers vastly more television channels to watch. However, it is only when the analogue signal is switched off that the full value of the Digital Dividend can be realised — by allocating the top part to mobile broadband.
