The 10th EMF FORUM |
The GSMA held its10th EMF Forum, which brought together 270 policymakers, international experts and industry leaders from around the world to exchange views on the latest research, policy developments and how to maximise the potential of 5G. In particular, participants discussed the scientific developments concerning millimetre waves, the result of 5G network assessments and how these developments can contribute to policy and communication responses to electromagnetic field (EMF) concerns. The GSMA also released a number of new/updated EMF resources, including a map of 5G EMF surveys and a
report on EMF exposure compliance policies for mobile network sites. | | |
Euractiv event on EU’s digital future and the value of connectivity |
GSMA’s Daniel Pataki, VP for Policy and Regulation & Head of Europe, Russia and CIS, spoke at the Euractiv event on the EU’s digital future and the value of connectivity. Daniel noted that while COVID-19 demonstrated that connectivity is essential, Europe still lags behind in 5G adoption and spectrum access. He stressed that the lag is due to market fragmentation and regulation, specifically spectrum policies and deployment rules. Daniel concluded that the regulatory status quo will not allow Europe to reach the targets of the Digital Decade. | | |

MEPs back extension of free roaming in the EU |
The European Parliament’s Industry Committee (ITRE) voted in favour of extending the "Roam like at Home" scheme for another ten years until 2032. MEPs held the 1st trilogue with the Council of the EU on 26 October and the GSMA will continue engagement with all stakeholders as the Trilogues progress into November. |

EU Leaders review progress on digital |
EU leaders held a Summit at the Council of the EU to discuss a variety of issues including digital transformation. The Council reviewed progress of key legislative files such as the Digital Services Act and Digital Markets Act, and called for rapid progress on initiatives related to data, AI, digital identity and microchips. |
