Connectivity is\u00a0the lifeblood of innovation and economic growth.<\/p>\n<p>As\u00a0telecom operators endeavour to build the networks\u00a0critical to Europe\u2019s digital future, we must consider the\u00a0broader regulatory environment in the EU. We envision\u00a0an enabling regulatory environment that supports\u00a0individuals\u2019 fundamental rights, while permitting technological developments and spurring investment.<\/p>\n<p>To manifest this reality, we urge policymakers to\u00a0consider the impact of the ePrivacy Regulation (ePR)\u00a0on both existing and future products and services that\u00a0are critical to Europe\u2019s digital growth, including the\u00a0Internet of Things (IoT) and 5G.<\/p>\n<p>This document highlights use cases impacted by the\u00a0currently proposed ePR, and outlines how the\u00a0proposed legislation could be amended to better align\u00a0with the GDPR and enable such use cases.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gsma.com\/about-us\/regions\/europe\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/GSMA-ETNO-ePR-Use-Cases-April-2018.pdf\">Full document (PDF download)<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The GSMA and ETNO are committed to reinforcing\u00a0the role of telecom operators as the \u201cbackbone of\u00a0the Digital Single Market,\u201d as noted by European\u00a0Commission Vice-President Ansip.
