El reporte \u201cEconom\u00eda M\u00f3vil 2017 \u2013 Am\u00e9rica Latina y Caribe\u201d de la GSMA fue publicado hoy durante el Mobile 360 &#8211; Latin America en Bogot\u00e1, y estima que las tecnolog\u00edas y servicios m\u00f3viles aportaron a la regi\u00f3n USD 260.000 millones durante 2016 en valor econ\u00f3mico (5 por ciento del PIB1). El reporte destaca que la acelerada adopci\u00f3n de 4G y de smartphones fueron los principales factores detr\u00e1s del aporte del sector a las econom\u00edas regionales.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEl ecosistema m\u00f3vil de Am\u00e9rica Latina es uno de los principales motores del crecimiento econ\u00f3mico y el desarrollo social de la regi\u00f3n y se convirti\u00f3 en una plataforma para la innovaci\u00f3n, la inversi\u00f3n y el emprendimiento\u201d, asegur\u00f3 Michael O\u2019Hara, Chief Marketing Officer de la GSMA. \u201cLos operadores m\u00f3viles invertir\u00e1n en redes casi USD 70.000 millones hasta fines de la d\u00e9cada para expandir la cobertura 4G en toda la regi\u00f3n, lo cual permitir\u00e1 mayor uso de datos m\u00f3viles mientras los usuarios migran a redes de pr\u00f3xima generaci\u00f3n\u201d.<\/p>\n<h3>Las redes 4G alcanzan masa cr\u00edtica<\/h3>\n<p>A fines de 2016 hab\u00eda 451 millones de suscriptores m\u00f3viles \u00fanicos2 en Am\u00e9rica Latina, concentrados en mercados como Brasil (33 por ciento del total), M\u00e9xico (20 por ciento), Argentina (9 por ciento) y Colombia (7 por ciento). Unos 60 millones de nuevos suscriptores se sumar\u00e1n para fines de la d\u00e9cada, cuando m\u00e1s del 75 por ciento de la poblaci\u00f3n de la regi\u00f3n estar\u00e1 suscripta a un servicio m\u00f3vil, comparado con 70 por ciento en 2016.<\/p>\n<p>Los suscriptores de la regi\u00f3n est\u00e1n migrando r\u00e1pidamente a redes y dispositivos inteligentes. Los smartphones representaron el 59 por ciento de las conexiones de la regi\u00f3n3 en el primer semestre de 2017, y se prev\u00e9 que representar\u00e1n el 71 por ciento del total para 2020. En paralelo, luego de un inicio lento, las redes 4G han alcanzado una masa cr\u00edtica en Latinoam\u00e9rica y cubren hoy al 70 por ciento de la poblaci\u00f3n. A junio de 2017, los operadores m\u00f3viles de la regi\u00f3n hab\u00edan lanzado 108 redes 4G en 45 mercados. Las conexiones 4G alcanzar\u00e1n 42 por ciento del total de conexiones m\u00f3viles para 2020, llegando a estar a la par del promedio global. Las primeras redes 5G comerciales de la regi\u00f3n se lanzar\u00e1n en 2020 y se prev\u00e9 que su cobertura alcanzar\u00e1 al 50 por ciento de la poblaci\u00f3n para 2025. <\/p>\n<h3>Una plataforma amplia y escalable para la innovaci\u00f3n y el crecimiento <\/h3>\n<p>El aporte del ecosistema m\u00f3vil latinoamericano a la econom\u00eda regional aumentar\u00e1 cada vez m\u00e1s en los pr\u00f3ximos a\u00f1os y se prev\u00e9 que alcance los USD 320.000 millones en valor econ\u00f3mico en 2020. Esto es equivalente al 5,6 por ciento del PIB y un incremento desde el 5 por ciento aportado en 2016. Adicionalmente, el sector m\u00f3vil gener\u00f3 1,7 millones de puestos de trabajo en forma directa e indirecta y fue tambi\u00e9n un importante contribuyente a las arcas del sector p\u00fablico, aportando casi USD 34.000 millones en 2016 en concepto de impuestos generales, incluidos el Impuesto al Valor Agregado (IVA), el impuesto a la renta de sociedades y las contribuciones sociales.<\/p>\n<p>Gracias a la creciente adopci\u00f3n de smartphones y uso de 4G en Am\u00e9rica Latina, el ecosistema m\u00f3vil se ha convertido en una amplia y escalable plataforma para emprendedores e innovadores. El financiamiento proveniente de capitales de riesgo y fondos privados ha sido especialmente significativo este a\u00f1o. La cantidad de transacciones que tuvieron lugar durante el primer semestre de 2017 fue superior a la de todo 2016, a\u00f1o que tambi\u00e9n fue r\u00e9cord.<\/p>\n<p>Con casi 350 millones de suscriptores de internet m\u00f3vil, el mercado latinoamericano supera al de EE. UU. adem\u00e1s de contar con los usuarios de internet m\u00f3vil m\u00e1s avanzados y participativos del mundo. No obstante, alrededor de 300 millones de personas siguen excluidas a nivel digital y no pueden a\u00fan disfrutar de los beneficios socioecon\u00f3micos que brinda el acceso a internet m\u00f3vil. Estos ciudadanos se encuentran ubicados sobre todo en zonas rurales y remotas, y son personas de bajos ingresos que necesitan que el gobierno implemente pol\u00edticas p\u00fablicas para incentivar la colaboraci\u00f3n p\u00fablico-privada para poder resolver estos problemas de manera efectiva. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cA pesar del progreso logrado hasta la fecha, en Am\u00e9rica Latina y Caribe todav\u00eda hay demasiadas personas excluidas del mundo digital y el ecosistema m\u00f3vil deber\u00e1 enfrentar todos estos desaf\u00edos para conectarlas\u201d, agreg\u00f3 O\u2019Hara. \u201cLos operadores m\u00f3viles desempe\u00f1an un papel vital en conectar a estos ciudadanos y eliminar las barreras a la adopci\u00f3n de internet m\u00f3vil como, por ejemplo, la falta de aptitudes digitales y la asequibilidad\u201d. <\/p>\n<p>El nuevo reporte \u201cEconom\u00eda M\u00f3vil 2017 \u2013 Am\u00e9rica Latina y Caribe\u201d fue elaborado por GSMA Intelligence, el brazo de investigaci\u00f3n de la GSMA.
