{"id":47746,"date":"2025-11-17T19:23:46","date_gmt":"2025-11-17T19:23:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.gsma.com\/about-us\/regions\/latin-america-and-the-caribbean\/gsma_resources\/costa-rica-elecciones-2026\/"},"modified":"2026-05-13T11:43:57","modified_gmt":"2026-05-13T10:43:57","slug":"costa-rica-elections-2026","status":"publish","type":"gsma_theme_resources","link":"https:\/\/www.gsma.com\/about-us\/regions\/latin-america-and-the-caribbean\/gsma_resources\/costa-rica-elections-2026\/","title":{"rendered":"Costa Rica 2030: Policies for the Digital (R)evolution"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>On Sunday, February 1, 2026, Costa Ricans will go to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tse.go.cr\/\">polls<\/a> to elect the next President of the Republic for the next four years.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In this document, the national mobile industry, through the GSMA, reflects on the digital progress made over the past period and presents its public policy recommendations for the next government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Over the last four years, Costa Rica has achieved sustained growth in 4G coverage, reaching 98% of the population in 2025. Public-private collaboration has enabled progress on several of the points outlined in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gsma.com\/about-us\/regions\/latin-america-and-the-caribbean\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/El-camino-hacia-una-Costa-Rica-Digital.pdf\">the document presented by the GSMA<\/a> during the previous presidential elections in 2022. However, challenges remain, including closing the usage gap: people who are covered by services but, due to various barriers, still do not use them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To effectively expand connectivity across the entire country, it is essential to have modern, robust, and accessible telecommunications networks for the entire population.
