These networks are the fundamental infrastructure for a more connected world that is experiencing exponential growth in smartphones and data traffic.<\/p>\n<p>Latin American mobile ope<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-11688\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gsma.com\/about-us\/regions\/latin-america-and-the-caribbean\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/350copyING1.jpg\" alt=\"350copyING1\" width=\"320\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.gsma.com\/about-us\/regions\/latin-america-and-the-caribbean\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/350copyING1.jpg 320w, https:\/\/www.gsma.com\/about-us\/regions\/latin-america-and-the-caribbean\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/350copyING1-300x187.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 320px) 100vw, 320px\" \/>rators are working in a comprehensive and diligent manner to expand infrastructure deployment and meet users\u2019 expectations.<\/p>\n<p>However, this deployment faces constant challenges that interfere in reaching the new antenna installation objectives for the region.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Existing Barriers Need to Be Removed to Foster Network Improvement<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Latin America needs more antennas to meet this growing demand. The first step is to remove existing barriers to infrastructure deployment in all the countries in the region.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gsma.com\/about-us\/regions\/latin-america-and-the-caribbean\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/img-inhabitants_antenna-EN.jpg\" target=\"blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gsma.com\/about-us\/regions\/latin-america-and-the-caribbean\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/img-inhabitants_antenna-EN.jpg\" alt=\"Inhabitants per antenna\" width=\"650\" height=\"343\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In many cases, municipal governments do not allow the installation of additional towers, paperwork gets delayed or excessive fees are imposed. Other important barriers, not based on any scientific data, are provisions about minimum required distance between antennas, or between antennas and schools, hospitals, nursing homes and other community-sensitive institutions.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-11691\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gsma.com\/about-us\/regions\/latin-america-and-the-caribbean\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/650ING3.jpg\" alt=\"650ING3\" width=\"650\" height=\"273\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.gsma.com\/about-us\/regions\/latin-america-and-the-caribbean\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/650ING3.jpg 650w, https:\/\/www.gsma.com\/about-us\/regions\/latin-america-and-the-caribbean\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/650ING3-300x126.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px\" \/>A fundamental driver in fostering infrastructure deployment and connectivity in a country is the award of base station installation permits solely on technical matters. This will boost investments in the mobile industry and positively impact the productivity and economy of that country.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Myths and Truths about Mobile Antennas<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The availability of a large number of mobile cells is essential for the provision of good network coverage for the population. Calls will not be interrupted and mobile signal will always be available.<\/p>\n<p>Not only does the number of antennas necessary to provide more and better mobile services needs to be increased, these antennas must also be located near populated areas to meet the following objectives:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Lower call interruption rates and faster Internet connectivity<\/li>\n<li>Longer battery life by transmitting with reduced power<\/li>\n<li>Less environmental pollution by using less energy both in mobile devices and antennas<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">The use of mobile phones and the radiofrequency from antennas do not have adverse effects on our health.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-11689\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gsma.com\/about-us\/regions\/latin-america-and-the-caribbean\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/350copyING2.jpg\" alt=\"350copyING2\" width=\"320\" height=\"280\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.gsma.com\/about-us\/regions\/latin-america-and-the-caribbean\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/350copyING2.jpg 320w, https:\/\/www.gsma.com\/about-us\/regions\/latin-america-and-the-caribbean\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/350copyING2-300x262.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 320px) 100vw, 320px\" \/>The levels of radiofrequency exposure from cellular antennas are non-ionizing and very low, which means that they cannot transfer enough power to break or change the chemical bonds of a molecule.<\/p>\n<p>According to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.who.int\/mediacentre\/factsheets\/fs193\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">World Health Organization (WHO)<\/a> <em>&#8220;A number of studies have been performed over the past two decades to determine if cellphones pose health risks. To date, research does not confirm that the use of mobile phones has adverse health effects&#8221;.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Educating the population is the most efficient mechanism to gain their acceptance and understanding in relation to infrastructure deployment.
