Annual closing with a great attendance of operators and suppliers in El Salvador<\/h3>\n

More than 130 executives including representatives from more than 30 operators of the region, regulators and more than 20 suppliers of the industry met from December 6 to 8 in Sonsonate, El Salvador to hold the last GSMA LA Plenary meeting of the year, focal meeting point of all Latin American mobile operators.<\/p>\n

With Claro El Salvador<\/strong> as host operator, the regional meeting started with the Seminar \u201cMobile Business Challenges\u201d, where Juan Carlos Jil<\/strong> and Marcelo Erlich<\/strong> presented, Deputy Chair and Chairman of GSMA LA respectively, along with representatives from some of the most recognized supplier telecommunications companies of the telecom industry.<\/p>\n

At the same time, a \u201cRegulatory Workshop\u201d was held that had the keynote participation of Jorge Ciccorossi<\/strong>, representative from the Bureau of Radiocommunications of the Internacional Telecomunication Union (ITU), as well as GSMA experts on Health and Security: Dr. Jack Rowley<\/strong> who presented a health electromagnetic fields update and James Moran<\/strong>, who presented about Industry Solutions for Hanset Theft.<\/p>\n

The Plenary Meeting was inaugurated by Eric Behner<\/strong>, Claro El Salvador Country Manager and Jos\u00e9 Cervantes<\/strong>, Regional Regulatory Director of Am\u00e9rica M\u00f3vil who made a review of the regulatory and business challenges in the region. Also, Sebastian Cabello<\/strong>, GSMA LA Director, presented an overview of the work done by GSMA Latin America during 2011 representing operators and participating in discussions about the future of the industry.<\/p>\n

As usual in our plenaries, we had the sessions of our four working groups – Billing and Roaming (BARG), Regulatory (REGF), Technical and Terminals (TECT) and Security and Fraud (SEGF)- where a significant number of executives representing operators discussed in detail on the critical issues regional operators are currently facing.<\/p>\n
