At an event organised by the GSMA, the global association leading the project, Claro and Movistar announced the launch of SIM Swap, a new commercial solution under the initiative designed to protect digital identity. Operators explained how this new business line will enable strategic partnerships with sectors such as banking and fintech, while contributing to a safer environment for mobile users.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">GSMA Open Gateway is a standard through which mobile operators provide developers access to a range of network functions used to create applications and services. By bringing together operators from around the world, the initiative facilitates the design of digital products that can function seamlessly across all devices, regardless of country or operator. This is achieved through unique access points, known as Application Programming Interfaces (APIs), which serve as gateways to information about network capabilities. These APIs are available through the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gsma.com\/solutions-and-impact\/technologies\/networks\/operator-platform-hp\/camara-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">CAMARA<\/a> repository, a project by GSMA and the Linux Foundation.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The first solution developed in Ecuador under GSMA Open Gateway is <strong>SIM Swap<\/strong>, which enables real-time detection of SIM card changes associated with a mobile number. This way, for example, if a bank integrates this API into its applications, it can check whether a user attempting a transfer has just changed their SIM card. This signals a potential fraud attempt and allows the bank to take additional security measures. For this reason, sectors such as banking, fintech, and insurance are the primary potential clients for this initiative.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201c<em>At Claro, we work with banks, fintechs, and developers at both local and regional levels to adapt this solution to the country\u2019s real needs, contributing to a safer, more agile, and more reliable digital environment<\/em>,\u201d said Francisco Corzo, Sales Director, Claro.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201c<em>This is great news, both for Ecuadorians and for the banks and financial institutions that rely on Movistar Empresas. These tools strengthen security for the millions of banking customers in the country<\/em>,\u201d added Juan Francisco Flores, Vice President, Movistar Empresas.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201c<em>GSMA Open Gateway turns mobile networks into open platforms that can be leveraged by developers and companies across different sectors to create better digital services. The launch of SIM Swap in Ecuador demonstrates how the mobile industry works united to provide concrete solutions to real problems such as online fraud<\/em>,\u201d said Alejandro Adamowicz, Director of Technology and Strategy for Latin America, GSMA.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Since its launch at MWC Barcelona 2023, 76 mobile operator groups, representing almost 80% of mobile connections globally, now participate in the initiative alongside many of the world\u2019s leading technology companies.
