New data published today in the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gsma.com\/solutions-and-impact\/connectivity-for-good\/mobile-economy\/latam\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Mobile Economy Latin America 2026<\/a>&nbsp;report&nbsp;reveals&nbsp;mobile technologies and services generated $600 billion in economic value across the region in 2025, equivalent to 8.6% of GDP, andis&nbsp;forecast to reach $700 billion by 2030.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, while half of all mobile connections in Latin America are forecast to run on 5G by 2030, a usage gap of 32% means millions&nbsp;remain&nbsp;offline despite living within coverage. In his opening keynote, GSMA Director General Vivek Badrinath&nbsp;called on industry and governments to complete the 5G journey, accelerate AI monetisation through initiatives including&nbsp;OpenTelco&nbsp;AI, and work together to tackle fraud and close the digital inclusion gap.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Vivek Badrinath, Director General of&nbsp;the GSMA, said:&nbsp;<em>\u201cM360 LATAM has always been where the region&#8217;s most important&nbsp;connectivity&nbsp;conversations happen, and this year that feels&nbsp;truer&nbsp;than ever. With 5G scaling across the region, AI moving from pilots into real operations, and a growing focus on making connectivity work for everyone,&nbsp;there\u2019s&nbsp;never been a more important moment to get these decisions right.&nbsp;It makes me&nbsp;proud to see the community here&nbsp;in such numbers and so clearly&nbsp;energised by the conversations ahead.\u201d<\/em>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>5G, AI, and the foundations of a competitive digital economy<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gsma.com\/solutions-and-impact\/connectivity-for-good\/mobile-economy\/latam\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Mobile Economy Latin America 2026<\/a>\u00a0report\u00a0points to 5G, AI and digital trust as the primary forces reshaping the region\u2019s mobile industry. Key findings include:\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Half of all mobile connections in Latin America will run on 5G by 2030, with Brazil leading the region at 74%.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The mobile ecosystem supported\u00a0nearly three\u00a0million jobs in Latin America in 2025.\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A\u00a0mobile internet\u00a0usage gap of 32% persists across the region, with affordability, digital literacy, and inequality the primary barriers.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>AI maturity is well ahead in Latin America, with AI\u00a0deployments\u00a0spanning a range of areas,\u00a0in particular in\u00a0consumer-facing operations.\u00a0In fact,\u00a085% of operator\u2019s\u00a0AI deployments\u00a0are\u00a0already live\u00a0rather than in development\u00a0stage,\u00a0ahead of the global average of 66%.\u00a0However,\u00a0there is a gap when it comes to monetisation, as the focus\u00a0is\u00a0on efficiency, cost\u00a0containment\u00a0and scalability\u00a0currently.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>By December\u00a02025, 15 operators in Latin America had at least one satellite partnership.\u00a0For operators,\u00a0direct\u2011to\u2011device\u00a0(D2D) satellite connectivity is a complementary layer that extends coverage, improves\u00a0resilienceand addresses persistent\u00a0coverage\u00a0gaps.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In addition, presented during the event\u2019s opening keynote, the regional awards programme returned for the third year as the GLOMO LATAM Awards, recognising the individuals and organisations driving innovation and meaningful progress across Latin America\u2019s digital ecosystem. The Industry Champion Award had two recipients. Oscar Le\u00f3n, Executive Secretary of Inter-American Telecommunication Commission\u00a0(CITEL), was recognised for strengthening public-private collaboration and advancing the role of mobile networks in the region\u2019s economic and social development. Alexandre Freire, Vice President of Brazil\u2019s National Telecommunications Agency (ANATEL), received the award for placing technology at the service of people, and helping position Brazil at the forefront of digital development.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Meanwhile\u00a0the Social Impact Award, selected by an independent expert jury, was presented to\u00a0Huawei for Tech4Nature, a collaborative conservation initiative developed with the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) at the\u00a0Dzilam\u00a0de Bravo State Reserve\u00a0in Yucat\u00e1n, Mexico.\u00a0The project uses digital technology, including\u00a0AI\u00a0and cloud computing, to\u00a0monitor\u00a0biodiversity and protect endangered species, especially the jaguar.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">M360 LATAM takes place at Hyatt Regency Mexico City, in partnership with the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/cltd.lat\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Latin American Congress of Digital Transformation&nbsp;(CLTD)<\/a>.
