Annual closing with a great attendance of operators and suppliers in El Salvador
More than 130 executives including representatives from more than 30 operators of the region, regulators and more than 20 suppliers of the industry met from December 6 to 8 in Sonsonate, El Salvador to hold the last GSMA LA Plenary meeting of the year, focal meeting point of all Latin American mobile operators.
With Claro El Salvador as host operator, the regional meeting started with the Seminar “Mobile Business Challenges”, where Juan Carlos Jil and Marcelo Erlich presented, Deputy Chair and Chairman of GSMA LA respectively, along with representatives from some of the most recognized supplier telecommunications companies of the telecom industry.
At the same time, a “Regulatory Workshop” was held that had the keynote participation of Jorge Ciccorossi, representative from the Bureau of Radiocommunications of the Internacional Telecomunication Union (ITU), as well as GSMA experts on Health and Security: Dr. Jack Rowley who presented a health electromagnetic fields update and James Moran, who presented about Industry Solutions for Hanset Theft.
The Plenary Meeting was inaugurated by Eric Behner, Claro El Salvador Country Manager and José Cervantes, Regional Regulatory Director of América Móvil who made a review of the regulatory and business challenges in the region. Also, Sebastian Cabello, GSMA LA Director, presented an overview of the work done by GSMA Latin America during 2011 representing operators and participating in discussions about the future of the industry.
As usual in our plenaries, we had the sessions of our four working groups – Billing and Roaming (BARG), Regulatory (REGF), Technical and Terminals (TECT) and Security and Fraud (SEGF)- where a significant number of executives representing operators discussed in detail on the critical issues regional operators are currently facing.
