10th February 2026, Cairo: The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Egypt, in partnership with GSMA, launched a high-level training programme on Artificial Intelligence (AI) Capacity Building for Policymakers, bringing together senior government officials, regulators, and representatives from key national institutions at UNDP Egypt\u2019s premises in Cairo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The programme also features regional participation from policymakers and representatives from Libya, Sudan, Tanzania, and Jordan, reflecting the growing importance of cross-regional dialogue and South\u2013South cooperation in shaping responsible AI governance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The two-day programme reflects a shared commitment by UNDP and GSMA to support Egypt\u2019s digital transformation agenda and to strengthen national capacities for responsible, inclusive, and future-ready AI governance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Artificial intelligence is already reshaping economies, public services, and governance systems worldwide. As governments seek to harness its potential for development, ensuring that AI systems are safe, transparent, ethical, and human-centered has become a growing priority. Egypt is among the countries taking proactive steps to address these opportunities and challenges through strategic policymaking and institutional coordination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The training focuses on strengthening policymakers\u2019 understanding of AI governance frameworks, regulatory approaches, and international best practices. Delivered by GSMA\u2019s global experts, the programme introduces practical tools, including the Responsible AI Maturity Roadmap, to help institutions assess their current readiness and identify pathways for responsible AI adoption.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAs artificial intelligence becomes part of everyday government work, it is important that it is guided by clear rules and shared values,\u201d said Chitose Noguchi, Resident Representative of UNDP Egypt. \u201cThis training helps public institutions work together, build practical understanding, and make sure AI is used in a transparent and inclusive way that benefits people.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Jawad Abbassi, Head of MENA, GSMA said: \u201cArtificial intelligence represents a significant opportunity for countries across the region to accelerate digital transformation and drive sustainable economic growth. Realising this potential, however, depends on putting in place clear, forward-looking governance frameworks that both enable innovation and build public trust. Through our partnership with UNDP, and through this high-level GSMA Capacity Building programme, the GSMA is supporting policymakers with practical insights from the mobile ecosystem and global best practice, helping to create an environment where AI can scale responsibly and deliver real impact.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The programme also provides a platform for dialogue and coordination across institutions, recognizing that effective AI governance requires collective vision and shared responsibility across government entities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Under the UNDP\u2013GSMA Memorandum of Understanding, both organizations have collaborated closely to strengthen national digital and innovation capacities in Egypt and across the region.
