“Are Your Policies and Business Models Fit for Purpose?”

2019 has been a fruitful year for 5G development, especially in Asia Pacific. In early April, SK Telecom, KT, and LG Uplus in South Korea and Verizon in the United States has pioneered the launch of 5G commercial services. More importantly, in South Korea, the collaborations between government and the industry enabled all three mobile operators to launch commercial and mobile 5G services simultaneously to cover all major cities in the country.

The advent and the rapid development of such services bring forward the discussion on whether the existing policy frameworks are adequate for the continuous development and to achieve the national social and economic objectives.

To address these questions, in this upcoming APAC 5G Leaders’ CXO Summit in South Korea, the GSMA, with the support of Korea’s Ministry of Science and ICT (MSIT), will bring together key policymakers and C-suite executives from the industry in Asia Pacific to address the challenges faced by mobile operators and policymakers in the markets that have either already launched 5G services or will launch very soon in the coming future.

The summit will consider business and policy topics of immediate relevance to providing 5G commercial services, including:
• Network security in a 5G world;
• Role of the government in promoting 5G growth;
• Strategies and policies for small-cell and dense-city infrastructure to facilitate 5G         deployment;
• 5G business models and monetization; and
• Partnering to drive 5G use cases.
