Canadian mobile operators welcome new bank to suretap mobile wallet

June 24, 2015 | Luella Charles

Suretap, a leading Canadian open mobile wallet technology, has announced additional support from mobile operators and banks for its mobile wallet.

Canadian mobile operators Bell, Rogers, TELUS, Koodo and Virgin Mobile now offer the suretap wallet on more than 30 Android and BlackBerry phones, with plans for support for other device platforms by the end of 2015. Suretap has also announced a new partnership with the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce, expanding the credit cards options available on the wallet.

The suretap wallet works with NFC-enabled smartphones on contactless payment terminals, which cover least 75% of terminals at Canada’s major retailers. The wallet enables consumers to make secure mobile payments using a wide range of credit cards and cards, as well as view their transaction history. The suretap wallet supplements NFC functionality with QR and barcodes for services such as gift cards that can be read by existing retail infrared scanners. Future plans for the wallet will be to support debit cards, loyalty cards, digital coupons, identification and personalised offers.
