Highlights of Mobile World Congress 2018 Seminar: eSIM – The eSIM Challenges

During Mobile Word Congress 2018, the GSMA organised the 3rd edition of the eSIM Seminar. Once again, this year, some of the industry’s most authoritative voices, including those from a leading operators, OEMs and EUMs shared with the audience their views about the ecosystems transition period to embedded SIMs.

The seminar was organised around 2 panel sessions:

The first, When the Industry goes Digital –  The Strategic Challenges of Transition Management, was chaired by Jean-Christophe Tisseuil, GSMA Head of eSIM. His guests included Frederic Vasnier, Executive Vice President at Gemalto, Carsten Ahrens, CEO at G&D, Yves Portalier General Manager at Idemia and Salvador Cabrera, EMEAA & Latam Director.  The panel focused on digitisation and the challenges that the EUMs are facing to develop eSIM when no or very few consumer devices are already launched.

The second, Transition from Vision to Implementation and Deployment, sponsored by SIM Alliance, was chaired by Dario Talmesio, Ovum’s Principal Analyst. He moderated the conversation between Remy Cricco, Chairman of SIM Alliance, Phillipe Lucas, Senior Vice President of Strategy, Architecture & Standardisation at Orange, Shai Guday, Partner Group Program Manager at Microsoft and Per Lindsberg, Senior Business Developer at Volvo.  Panelists considered how to address market needs for remote SIM provisioning, as use cases extend beyond handheld devices and rollout begins in earnest across sectors like the automotive industry.
