The FinTech Summit at MWC22 Barcelona

As MWC22 Barcelona fast approaches, for the first time, the GSMA will bring the latest mobile fintech developments to the stage, showcasing success stories and exploring new revenue opportunities for the ecosystem.

Sponsored by Knowledge Partner Accenture and FinTech Industry Supporting Partner Citi, the FinTech Summit on Wednesday 2 March 2022 will explore key areas including the Metaverse, partnerships, digital assets, payments, fraud threats and more.

In the last few years, we have seen a growing global trend as mobile operators build partnerships in fintech and have entered the market with disruptive propositions. In many cases, this has already created substantial new value pools for shareholders as the financial services industry continues to digitise at a rapid pace.

The total value of payments made using mobile devices reached $503 billion in 2020, as society becomes increasingly connected – 45% of smartphone owners purchase goods or services online via their mobile phone on a weekly basis and 37% use contactless mobile payments weekly as well. In turn, we have seen growth in cyber-crime and social engineering attacks, such as romance and investment scams, as entry points for hackers increase. As every part of the financial services supply chain is being tested by fraudsters, mobile network operators and financial service providers are working together to strengthen defences and protect their customers.

Throughout the full-day summit, our speakers including network operators; Deutsche Telekom, Telefonica, Veon, Vodafone, Airtel, Safaricom and fintech experts such as Celo, Citi, Prove, Huawei, Yabx and more, will share insights as to how they are creating new solutions and unlocking revenue opportunities

The Metaverse will of course be underpinned by mobile technology and connectivity – opening up countless opportunities for blockchain, NFTs, digital currency and payments to flourish. At MWC22 Barcelona, Accenture, Microsoft and Cathy Hackl, Chief Metaverse Officer from The Futures Intelligence Group will discuss what this means for operators, and how mobile technology will prove the fulcrum of next-generation technology innovation.

We will also be launching the GSMA FinTech Forum for GSMA members and non-members to help accelerate global collaboration in mobile FinTech.
