The latest webinar in our Network 2020 webinar series focused on the benefits of interconnected mobile All-IP communications to the operator. Attendees were able to hear from global operators who are committed to launch interconnected solutions – driving scale and increasing the reach of IP based communication services to their customers. As well as gaining insights into the strategic decisions behind the commitment to interconnection; typical timelines for implementation; commercial and technical considerations and in the impact on customer reach from live services.
The webinar had speakers from the GSMA, Ian Crawford, IOT (Interoperability and Testing) Programme Manager, who provided an updated on IP interconnect activities, focusing on realising the ‘Green Button Promise’. Next, Craig Marshall-Nicholls, Senior Director of Product Marketing at Jibe Mobile, introduced Jibe Mobile and provided details about their Jibe Hub for RCS interconnection, including the operators whom they have launched with. Craig also highlighted key learnings from the initial scope to implementation, and reviewed operator interconnection case studies including both IMS-based services and Cloud-hosted solutions. Lastly Itsuma Tanaka, Lead Core Network Architect, Core Network Development Department at NTT DoCoMo provided an update on the VoLTE Roaming working group, supported by the GSMA and leading mobile operators in China, Japan and Korea including China Mobile, KT, NTT DoCoMo, SK Telecom, KPN and Verizon, which assessed various important aspects of VoLTE Roaming with S8 HR and LBO VR (Local Break Out, Visited network Routing) models.
