Innovator Profile: Kawar Energy

In line with the national strategy agenda to promote sustainable, affordable energy in Jordan. Kawar Energy is proud to announce the full implementation of Orange Jordan’s solar farm project, Jordan’s first and largest solar wheeling project connected to the National Electric Power Company grid. Orange Jordan officially inaugurated the solar farms project on November 21st 2019 under the patronage of the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Hala Zawati.

E-DIMENSION, a wholly owned company by Orange signed an agreement with Shams al Etisalat lil-Taqa, a wholly owned company by Kawar Investments, for the establishment of a 36.7 MW solar photovoltaic power plant. According to the agreement, Shams al Etisalat lil-Taqa will operate three high-quality photovoltaic solar plants. Kawar Energy, a wholly owned company by Kawar Investments, completed the design, engineering, procurement, construction of the three power plants and will be handling the operation and maintenance of the solar farms for the next 20 years.

The three independent photovoltaic (PV) plants are currently operated by NEPCO, JEPCO and IDECO. In accordance with an inter-connection agreement signed with E-Dimension, solar power will sustainably offset a portion of Orange Jordan’s energy consumption, leading to a more eco-friendly telecom industry in the Kingdom and a positive impact on Orange Telecom’s operations.

“Given the ever-increasing global importance of renewable energy projects, we at Kawar Energy are proud to have been chosen as the EPC and O&M contractors of the first and largest private-to-private solar PV wheeling project in Jordan that is connected to the National Electric Power Company grid to date. Our commitment to safeguarding Jordan’s environment will undoubtedly be manifested by the prevention of 34,000 tons of CO2 emissions every year. Our aim is to set the trend towards the transition to renewables and developing new PV systems to support the national grid.”, said Mr. Hanna Zaghloul, CEO of Kawar Energy.

“Solar power is one of the most promising sources of renewable energy available today, and developing new PV power stations to support the national grid is one of the Kingdom’s best options for financial and environmental sustainability.” Said Karim Kawar, Chairman of Kawar Energy
