Telstra and Ericsson collaborate on edge cloud for enterprises

Australian operator, Telstra and Ericsson will collaborate to develop an edge cloud solution for enterprise use cases. It will be delivered within months and strengthen Telstra’s ability to serve enterprise customer needs in the 5G era, with network services offered either on the edge or on-premise. The range of potential applications spans areas including agriculture, industrial IoT and smart cities.

5G is driving renewed interest in B2B as the enterprise segment provides new opportunities to expand beyond connectivity. These partnerships are crucial to foster technology and service innovation for vertical industries. As well as developing their own edge cloud strategies and projects, operators are also increasingly collaborating to leverage the scale and power of an industry-based approach. Telstra is one of 30 operators supporting the GSMA Telco Edge Operator Platform initiative, which brings together developers, operators, platform providers and the broader ecosystem to create the level of commonality required to achieve global, interoperable scale. As enterprises progress with their digital transformation plans, these initiatives help drive momentum, reinforcing the important role of mobile networks.
