Satellite technologies and communication is seeing a new era of advancements, shifting to a standardised approach with the promise to reduce costs, improve interoperability and tackle directly to consumer opportunities has never before. At the forefront of this revolution, direct-to-device satellite services for IoT and consumer smartphones have been making waves, promising to redefine connectivity as we know it. Potentially, enterprise applications presents an even more lucrative frontier, driven by the significant ROI that specific industry verticals can achieve through B2B satellite broadband solutions.

Join us at the Non-Terrestrial Network Roundtable to discuss the future of convergence between Mobile Networks and satellite both for consumer and the enterprise sector. We will explore the different needs in the regions in term of services, potential market opportunities, challenges and share learnings.

GSMA has launched the NTN Community in February 2024 with the purpose of bringing together mobile and satellite to work on a common goal. Trying to identify the area of work that still need to be tackled and worked out globally. GSMA NTN community is looking at the topic from a more business prospective, the use cases and the overall stakeholders and landscape. In the meantime, the work on providing relevant test cases in support of the terminal certification is ongoing in the Terminal Steering Group and new work is soon to be started also in the Network Work.

GSMA will provide a brief overview of the current activity withing the organisation and also the collaboration with other organisations. This Roundtable give opportunities to the participants to share their point of view on the following topic areas (non exhaustive):

  • Relevant use cases in the country/region
  • Type of NTN technology that are of interest by each country/region (from 3GPP
  • point of view: HAPS, NTN-IoT, NTNT-NR, or non-standard solutions based on
  • LTE or 5G)
  • Technical challenges that have been solved and that still need to be addressed
  • Specific regulatory requirements from country/region
  • Terminal requirements, availability
  • Possible Business models
  • Lifetime of the services and availability of technologies (between terrestrial and
  • various orbit NTN)

The roundtable will start at will be open to all participants to share their learning so far and also to share some of the concerns so that we can discuss possible area of work to support the fruitful deployment of NTN solutions.

The roundtable has limited seats available, so if you are interested in the topic, confirm your participation asap. Also the event will be in English only and we do not require slides for to be prepared in advance.
GSMA will provide a complimentary breakfast starting at 7:45am.
