SBTS, the joint venture between GSMA Member\u00a0BTS<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0SoftBank\u00a0Corp.<\/a>,\u00a0and\u00a0ZIM Connections\u00a0today announced a strategic partnership to launch a travel\u00a0eSIM\u00a0solution,\u00a0initially focused\u00a0on inbound and outbound travel into and from Japan. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\u00a0initial\u00a0launch is a digital travel\u00a0eSIM\u00a0platform developed by ZIM Connections<\/a> and commercialized by SoftBank\u00a0Corp. (\u201cSoftBank\u201d), a Japan-based\u00a0telecommunications and IT\u00a0operator. It enables travellers to easily search for,\u00a0purchase, and activate unlimited global\u00a0eSIM\u00a0plans through a seamless digital experience. The first phase focuses on travellers visiting Japan as well as Japan-based\u00a0travellers going abroad, leveraging SoftBank\u2019s network for connectivity in the region.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This launch\u00a0represents\u00a0a fully commercial market introduction, delivering immediate value to travelers while\u00a0establishing\u00a0a strong foundation\u00a0for international expansion. Future phases will introduce\u00a0additional\u00a0languages, currencies, and payment methods, followed by broader global deployment and\u00a0additional\u00a0versions of the travel\u00a0eSIM\u00a0solution.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cTravellers today expect simple, digital-first connectivity wherever they go,\u201d said\u00a0Giulia\u00a0Acchioni\u00a0Mena, co-founder and COO of ZIM Connections. \u201cThis launch brings a seamless travel\u00a0eSIM\u00a0experience to market, designed to meet the strong demand around inbound travel to Japan and international mobility more broadly.\u00a0It\u2019s\u00a0built to scale and adapt as traveler needs continue to evolve.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Akihiro Kato,\u00a0Senior Director\u00a0at SoftBank\u2019s Cross-border Business Promotion Office, commented: \u201cExpanding our product suite with travel\u00a0eSIM\u00a0is\u00a0an important step\u00a0in serving both inbound visitors to Japan and Japanese travelers going abroad. This allows us to bring a market-ready solution to customers quickly, while building the foundation for deeper product development in the\u00a0future.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The current service is available globally to B2C users and not limited to SoftBank subscribers. Travelers can access the platform online, select a destination, purchase an unlimited data plan, and activate their eSIM within minutes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This launch marks the beginning of a broader collaboration aimed at expanding travel connectivity services across additional markets worldwide. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
