New GSMA Report Highlights Development of Mobile IoT Networks and Applications Across Greater China Regions

China Mobile, China Telecom, Chunghwa Telecom, Huawei and ZTE Showcase How Mobile IoT is Helping to Deliver Everything From Smart Cities to Smart Metering

Hong Kong: The GSMA today issued a new report, ‘Mobile Internet of Things Case Study, Greater China Report’, which highlights the development of a number successful Mobile IoT networks in Greater China from operators and vendors including China Mobile, China Telecom, Chunghwa Telecom, Huawei and ZTE. The report includes a number of case studies that outline how Mobile IoT technologies were rolled out, as well as operators’ key learnings and next steps. Several of the most prominent use cases cover how Mobile IoT is helping to drive efficiencies in diverse sectors including smart metering services across electricity, gas and water as well as city lighting, parking, bicycle hire, utilities and even helping to support the reproduction rates of cows on dairy farms.

“Mobile IoT is delivering new opportunities for operators to support key industry sectors and provide connectivitiy across the region,” said Sihan Chen, Head of Greater China, GSMA. “Operators in Greater China are already reaping the benefits of deploying Mobile IoT and we encourage others to act now to capitalise on this growing market opportunity and further accelerate the development of the Internet of Things.”

The Greater China region accounted for nearly 45 per cent of an estimated 600 million licensed cellular IoT connections in Q4 2017, according to GSMA Intelligence. The Greater China case studies highlight how Mobile IoT connectivity can provide solutions that required low cost, use low data rates, long battery lives and can operate in remote locations to bring about clear business and socio-economic benefits to the regions.

The new report ‘Mobile Internet Of Things Case Study, Greater China’ is available to download in English (full report) and Chinese (preface) language versions.
