Mobile Meetings Series – Energy Efficiency and Green Power: How the mobile industry is setting the standard for industry progress on clean and efficient energy

Start: Thursday 11 July 2013

End: Thursday 11 July 2013

Following the June 2012 UN Conference on Sustainable Development (also known as Rio+20) and in the context of regional and global environmental efforts, the European Commission has prioritised renewable energy and reduction of greenhouse emissions as part of its EU 2020 Strategy in order to facilitate a more efficient and sustainable energy policy in Europe.

Industry must contribute towards a greener energy policy to achieve EU 2020 goals and the mobile industry is leading by example, providing effective methods for extending coverage, reducing cost and minimising the environmental impact of mobile networks. Some examples of green initiatives have already been successfully implemented, such as the use of renewable energy sources by the mobile industry to power new and existing off-grid base stations in developing countries (e.g. India). Today, Green Power (or Intelligent Energy) must become the standard for today’s innovative industry sectors.

The GSMA event aimed at showcasing the benefits of energy efficiency and “going green” and the leadership of the mobile industry towards the development of energy efficiency for mobile telecom networks and also its customers.
