The 2017 edition of GSMA Mobile World Congress (MWC17) will start in just a few weeks. Also this year the four-day Congress will attract more than 100,000 visitors from nearly 200 countries to discuss key industry trends.

The Ministerial Programme

Alongside the Congress, the GSMA’s Government and Regulatory Affairs team will host the annual Ministerial Programme. Many telecoms ministers and regulators from Europe will participate in the three-day programme that will bring together the world’s most influential telecommunications leaders to address the most pressing issues affecting the future of the mobile industry.

EU institutions delegation at MWC17

High-level representatives of the European institutions attend the Mobile World Congress each year, giving keynote presentations, holding press conferences, visiting stands including the GSMA Innovation City, and engaging in bilateral and roundtable discussions. This year, the Congress will welcome both European Commission Vice-President Ansip and Commissioner Günther Oettinger, a delegation of 11 Members of the European Parliament and many officials from the European Commission, national Ministries as well as national regulators.

This year’s programme for the EU representatives will kick off with a high-level roundtable discussion on Modernising Europe’s Digital Rules, co-organised by the GSMA and the European Internet Forum.

The MEP delegation will also make a tour of the exhibition area (including a visit to the GSMA Innovation City).  The Ministerial Programme will have a dedicated session on Europe, named The Path to Digital Europe. MEP del Castillo will be a keynote speaker, alongside Roberto Viola, in this session in the Ministerial Programme.

On 27 February, Vice President Ansip and Commissioner Oettinger will host a roundtable bringing together the telecoms and automotive sector to discuss connected cars. The Roundtable will be followed by a ceremony, for the signature of a Memorandum of Understanding between the European Automotive Telecoms Association Alliance (EATA) and the 5G Automotive Association (5GAA) at which Director General Roberto Viola will participate.

Vice-President Ansip will also deliver a keynote presentation entitled Building the 5G Economy and participate in a panel discussion with Ajit Pai, Chairman of the US Federal Communications Commission, and industry representatives.

You are invited to join us from 27 February to 2 March for what promises to be the biggest and best Congress yet. For more information about the event please visit the event website.
