Climate and digital policies are at the very top of the European agenda. The new Commission has set out highly ambitious targets, to become the first carbon-neutral continent by 2050 and to regain Europe’s digital sovereignty.
These two topics are closely interlinked. Digital technologies will act as a real game-changer in the transition to a sustainable Europe, as they can realise large energy efficiency gains across all sectors, and transform the energy sector by enabling a massive decentralisation of electricity grids. But without 5G mobile networks and drastic expansion of renewable energy, this transition will come to a grinding halt.
To learn more about the transformative power of 5G and the interlinkage with the renewable energy sector, you are welcome to join us on 23 January at our RE for 5G Europe conference. Not only will we discuss how mobile network operators themselves can switch entirely to renewable energy, but we will also zoom in on energy efficiency of 5G networks and their enabling potential for other industries. We have a wide range of speakers from Ericsson, Huawei, Telefónica, the European Commission, Bank of America and SmartEN, with many more to follow.
The conference will take place at TownHall Europe at Square de Meeûs in the heart of the EU quarters, from 14:00 to 18:00. You can register directly on our website.
Pre-event for GSMA members: Renewable Energy Buyers’ Bootcamp
Prior to the conference, the RE-Source Platform organises an educational workshop for GSMA members to discuss corporate sourcing of renewable energy and renewable energy power purchase agreements (PPAs). Clean energy providers and buyers using renewable energy will engage in peer to peer learning on topics including, but not limited to, sourcing strategies, on-site generation, financial and virtual PPAs, cross-border PPAs, Guarantees of Origin, additionality, etc.
The roundtable discussions will also serve as an introduction for members not too familiar with the renewable energy business and introduce The Renewable Energy Buyers’ Toolkit. This workshop will be held at the GSMA offices in Brussels, followed by a networking lunch.
GSMA members can register for this pre-event while filling out the registration form for the main conference.
