Personal access to affordable and reliable Internet connectivity is the foundation of a digital society. As a nation’s government and business activities become more digitised, digital citizenry increasingly becomes a prerequisite for effective societal participation. The benefits of digital inclusion – and the adverse consequences of digital exclusion – become more profound. This is especially pertinent in many Asian countries, where rapid technological transformation frequently sits beside large unconnected populations. This report examines the means to which various countries in Asia can create digital societies and benefits resulting from this.
