Veon rolls out MobileID to its 212 million customers across nine countries

Veon has rolled out MobileID to its 212 million customers across nine countries. This follows extensive trials by all Russian mobile operators which saw over 1.2 million monthly active users subscribe to MobileID to authenticate their digital persona with 36 major online service providers and merchants, including AliExpress, Alfa-Bank, Alfa Insurance, Sheremetievo Airport, and Raiffeisen Bank.

As digital transformation accelerates, we expect to see an increase in brands leveraging mobile operators’ identity solutions. Mobile identity solutions leverage the operators’ unrivalled reach, network built-in security and knowledge of their customers. For users, these solutions ally security and convenience. Users expectations in controlling how their data is shared were built-in Mobile Connect standards from the outset.

Early signs of success in Russia illustrate the importance of mobile operators working together to offer a unified solution to enterprises. The GSMA is observing and supporting collaborative operator initiatives in all major markets.

The GSMA’s Mobile Connect is a secure universal identity service offering a simple, trusted way for mobile users to share sensitive data, and undertake transactions with confidence. Enabling authentication, authorisation and secure identity verification, swiftly, globally, and cost-effectively.
