Webinar: Unlocking the Value of IoT Through Big Data
The Internet of Things is generating a huge amount of data that is currently retained in vertical silos. However, a true IoT is dependent on the availability and confluence of rich data sets from multiple systems, organizations and verticals which will usher in the next generation of IoT solutions.
The GSMA is working with the mobile industry to establish an IoT Big Data Ecosystem which will bring smart city benefits to businesses and consumers. For example, improved traffic flows, more environmentally friendly practices, and efficient city planning services.
The IoT Big Data API Directory was developed by the GSMA to help accelerate the IoT Big Data ecosystem. Benefits will be realized through the harmonization of IoT big data sets from multiple sources and making them available to developers and third parties through common APIs. This will enable the industry to remove the commercial and technical barriers in capitalizing on the IoT opportunity.

Aruna Srinivasan is the Executive Director for Industry Engagement for GSMA’s Connected Living Programme. Ms. Srinivasan leads the Smart Cities and IoT Big Data initiatives, working together with mobile operators and ecosystem partners to develop new technology enablers and drive market development and adoption in these areas. Ms. Srinivasan has over 15 years of strategy, technology and programme delivery experience with GSMA, Third Horizon Consulting, Commonwealth Bank of Australia, Australia Gas Lighting and Arthur Andersen Consulting. She holds a Master of Commerce and Bachelor of Software Engineering degrees from the University of New South Wales, Australia.

Professor Luis Muñoz received both the Telecommunications Engineering degree and Ph.D. from the Polytechnical University of Cataluña (UPC). He also holds a Master in Mathematics, Statistic and Operation Research (Licenciado en Ciencias Matemáticas, UNED). He is head of the Network Planning and Mobile Communications Laboratory belonging to the Communications Engineering Department (DICOM) at the University of Cantabria, Spain. His research focuses on advanced data transmission techniques, heterogeneous wireless multihop networks, Internet of Things, technologies and services in the context of smart cities and applied mathematical methods for telecommunications.
Stephen Doyle is Technical Architect for GSMA covering the topic of IoT and Big Data. A graduate in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Warwick in the UK he has worked for a range of IT and Telecoms companies comprising equipment manufacturers, mobile operators, and application/ service developers. Since 1994 Stephen has worked in the Mobile Industry mainly in the areas of applications and services and is particularly experienced in the definition, development and usage of web/mobile APIs. For GSMA he has worked as technical lead for APIs under the OneAPI initiative, and the API Exchange platform and related technologies that enables the Mobile Connect initiative.
