Opportunities in the IoT: Evolving roles for mobile operators

This report, co-authored by International Data Corporation (IDC), outlines the opportunity for operators, the routes to market, the essential technology enablers required and examples of where operators are successfully pursuing these roles. In addition, it also outlines some of the key strategic considerations operators must address in defining and migrating to these roles.

For this report, IDC interviewed a range of different operators from around the world on their IoT ambitions and challenges. The output from these interviews, combined with IDCs extensive research into enterprise requirements for IoT, and GSMA’s understanding of operator capabilities has highlighted a range of different roles that operators could take on over the next 5 years to maximise their revenues in the IoT market.
