Mobile IoT technologies, also known as low power wide area (LPWA), serve a diverse range of vertical industries and applications that use low data rates, require long battery lives with low cost, and often operate in remote and hard to reach locations. These new technologies, standardised by 3GPP last year, will be crucial for the utility industry to transform and digitalise for better coverage. Mobile IoT is predicted to connect billions of devices by 2020.
This webinar brought together the voice of the operator, vendor and customer to explore the unique capabilities of these new technologies and how they address the requirements of the utilities companies.

Q: In your opinion, will DLMS/COSEM be obligatory for gas and water meters?
A: DLMS/COSEM is not a compulsory choice. It is however the most common choice in Europe for power and gas metering. Some European countries also adopted DLMS/COSEM for water metering.
Q: Do you handle Firmware download over NB-IoT given the limited amount of bandwidth?
A: Yes. Firmware download is among the key features to be performed over NB IoT. Specific strategies for data packets are implemented to make this possible. Firmware download is part of the test package for any trial we conduct in the different countries of the world. So far, Firmware download succeeded in 100% of the countries where we conducted this NB-IoT test.
Q: Have you seen a need for tools aimed at helping the installation process? For example, a tool that would evaluate the quality of the connectivity link from a network metric perspective (signal level, interference, etc.)?
A: ) An instrument to measure the quality of the connectivity is part of the tool box in the hands of the installation engineer.

Q: Will Telit offer a single modem capable of CAT-M1, CAT-NB1, Module-Embedded SIM Technology?
A: Yes, ME910 with simWISE.
Q: Is Telit simWISE considered equivalent to a 2G or 3G product, i.e. is it functionally similar to a 2G, 3G or even a LTE ISIM?
A: Even better as you don’t have the logistic cost of handling a physical SIM card. Ready today on 2G, will come next year for LTE modules.
Q: Do you see mobility support for NB-IoT in the future?
A: Release 14 plans a Suspend/Resume mechanism but not comparable to mobility offered by LTE-M.
