The number of cellular IoT connections will hit 3.5B in 2023 (Ericsson) collecting vast amounts of data. GSMA Intelligence forecasts $1.1 trillion in total IoT revenues for 2025, but 97% of organisations feel challenges to realising this opportunity. Operators should expect to see a spike in demand for data analytics, cloud services, platforms and security within enterprises, presenting potentially lucrative markets. By adding these services to their offerings, operators can help enterprises to make sense of the wealth of data that they hold. Some already have dedicated data analytics units, others are deploying innovative use cases in smart buildings and cities – there is also an opportunity for operators to create IoT data marketplaces.
