Colombia to host Latin American Telecommunications Congress 2017

The fifth CLT will be held from 20 to 23 June in Cartagena, organised by ITU, CAF, GSMA, ASIET and CRC. The most important telecommunications event in Latin America will bring together the region’s leading executives, ministers and academics in the digital ecosystem.

Bogotá, 20 December 2016. The key players in the Latin American telecommunications sector will be meeting in Cartagena from 20 to 23 June 2017 to attend the fifth Latin American Telecommunications Congress (CLT17).

The most important annual event for discussion about Latin American ICT public policy will bring together leading executives, academics, international organisations, ministers and regulators in the digital ecosystem. The central topics will include development of the digital economy and the industrial internet in the region, and regulatory modernisation of the digital ecosystem and its contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals.

Cartagena will be the venue for top level discussion on telecommunications in Latin America at the June Congress, organised by the United Nations International Telecommunication Union (ITU), CAF – Development Bank of Latin America, the GSMA (global association of the mobile ecosystem), the Inter-American Association of Telecommunications Companies (ASIET) and the Communications Regulation Commission (CRC), with the support of Colombia’s ICT Ministry, Superintendence of Industry and Commerce (SIC) and National Spectrum Agency (ANE).

CLT is a space for discussion and exchange about digital public policy where all the major players and organisations from the region convene. This makes it an ideal setting for defining a new working agenda to address the challenges and maximise the opportunities for the development of ICT and the digital economy in Latin America.

The event is supported by the Latin America & Caribbean Network Information Centre (LACNIC), Internet Society (ISOC) and the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN). In addition, the annual academic meeting of CPR LATAM, the cross-disciplinary network of research centres that seeks to advance knowledge of the social, economic and political impact of ICT, will be held alongside CLT.
