GSMA LA Plenary Meeting #37

23-25 April 2012 – Viña del Mar, Chile

The 3 days of activities of the GSMA LA Plenary Meeting of Viña del Mar, Chile, was place of important discussions of the key issues at stake for the Latin American telecom industry. The meeting registered more than 450 attendees with representatives of 40 national mobile operators (36 from our region), 37 suppliers of networks and services, and more than 30 government representatives. The most outstanding sessions were the following:

  • Public Policy Seminars: Comprised of the “The Mobile Broadband & Spectrum” (PP1), “The Mobile’s Transformative Role in the Lives of Children and Young People” (PP2) and “Health & EMF” (PP3) workshops. To access the presentations, comments and an image gallery, please click here.
  • Mobile Business Seminars: Comprised of “Mobile Health Seminar” (MB1) and the “Mobile Money & NFC” (MB2) workshops that had the participation of a great variety of experts and entrepreneurs. To access the presentations, comments and an image gallery, please click here.
  • Plenary Session: With the participation of high level representatives of the ChileanGovernment, GSMA LA introduced its governance changes andupcoming meetings and GSMA presented on key new initiatives to be launched inthe region.   • Operators Working Groups Sessions: The working groups of Roaming and Billing (BARG), Regulatory (REGF), Technical and Terminals (TECT) and Security and Fraud (SEGF) operator expert groups met for the first time this year with a high participation of operators and suppliers. Among the government representatives that participated in the Plenary #37 we can mention Subtel and Corfo (Chile), Cofetel (Mexico), ACMA (Australia) and PTS (Sweden). We would like to thank the Mobile Telephony Association of Chile (ATELMO) for the great support and to all our sponsors that made this regional meeting to be very successful, especially to Ericsson, which held a memorable evening dinner for all in Viña del Mar.

CROG Latam second meeting

The second meeting of the Chief Regulatory Officers Group for Latin America (CROG Latam) was also held in Viña. This newly formed group consists of senior public policy public policy representatives from 14 of the largest member companies of Latin America and the Caribbean.
