Latin American Media & Convergent Services Summit to explore the emerging intersection between mobile and video

Sector Leaders Will Analyze Business Opportunities and Challenges in the Region at the Summit Held at “GSMA Mobile World Congress Americas 2018, in partnership with CTIA”

6 September 2018, Buenos Aires: In just one week, telecommunications executives, media leaders and startup entrepreneurs will meet at the Latin American Media & Convergent Services Summit to examine the future of mobile services and content distribution across the region. This must-attend event, held as part of Mobile World Congress Americas, will take place on September 13, from 1:00 pm to 4:30 pm, at the Concourse Hall, Theater B at the Los Angeles Convention Center. Speakers will address the emergence of quad-play services and the possibilities it opens in terms of new business models and revenue streams. They will also explore how operators, OTTs, studios and media are competing and looking into collaboration in this ever-changing digital ecosystem.

“In today’s digital life, content is king and video is king of mobile consumption. Video already accounts for 56 per cent of mobile traffic and it is expected to grow by around 45 per cent annually through 2023, to account for 73 per cent of all mobile data traffic[1],” said Sebastián Cabello, Head of Latin America, GSMA. “Video poses challenges for operators, who must find ways to monetize it and manage traffic to deliver good quality of service. It is also challenging for content creators and distributors, who depend on mobile networks to reach consumers and offer them a good experience. These will be some of the central themes of our meeting.”

The Summit will include panels and presentations on regulatory and operational hurdles; sports consumption over mobile; mobile-first video networks; and the role of the cloud in media services. Attendees will have the opportunity to exchange experiences and insights with the ones leading the way in convergence in the region.

Keynote presentations will feature:

  • Tomas Genanari, Executive Vice President, Business Bureau
  • Emiliano Calemzuk, Co-Founder and CEO, Raze
  • Jossi Fresco, Regional Director Latin America, Verizon Digital Media Services
