Mobile identity solutions and network evolution to 5G key topics at TECT meeting held alongside Rio Wireless

More than 200 technology experts from the Latin American digital ecosystem participated in the 17th Rio Wireless 2017 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, venue for the first annual meeting of the Technical and Terminals Working Group (TECT) of GSMA Latin America, held on Tuesday 30 May. Mobile Connect, Internet of Things, the new generation of advanced messaging services (Rich Communication Services) and network evolution to 5G were some of the key discussion topics at the TECT meeting.

Alejandro Adamowicz, GSMA Technology Director for Latin America, took part in the opening panel of the regional meeting with local authorities:

  • André Borges, Secretary of Telecommunications, Brazilian Ministry of Science, Technology, Innovation and Communications (MCTIC)
  • Igor Vilas Boas de Freitas, Anatel Board Member
  • José Augusto Gontijo, Director of the Department of Technology and Digital Innovation, Brazilian Ministry of Science, Technology, Innovation and Communications (MCTIC)
  • Irecê Fraga Kauss Loureiro, Head of ICT Department, National Bank of Economic and Social Development, Brazil

Some 30 representatives from mobile operators in the region participated in the TECT meeting, joined by local and regional experts from digital ecosystem companies, including Ericsson, Nokia, Google, Certisign and Gemalto.

“Once again, the TECT group has generated in-depth, productive discussion among digital system operators and companies about key topics such as the Internet of Things and network evolution to 5G,” said Martín Wessel, Technology Evolution Manager of Telecom Argentina and TECT Chair. “In particular, the discussion has been very interesting in relation to two key GSMA projects: Mobile Connect and RCS. There is clearly an opportunity to offer mobile users new solutions with improved security in access to digital services and an enhanced experience in messaging and A2P apps (Application to Person),” he added.

The next meeting of TECT Working Group experts will be held during GSMA M360 Latin America 2017, which will be on from 31 October to 2 November in Bogotá, Colombia.
