“Another year of major achievements is coming to a close. Throughout 2017 we highlighted the need to boost digital transformation in Latin America at regional and global events, publishing key reports with our vision for the future from our positions as industry leaders. We’ll continue on this path in 2018, starting from MWC18 with a strong focus on delivering the Sustainable Development Goals locally, backed by the transformative power of mobile. We wish you a happy Christmas with family and friends and look forward to continuing to work together for a better future.” - Sebastián Cabello, Head of Latin America, GSMA.
Towards a thriving digital economy in Latin America: promoting trade and inclusion
“Clear rules, plus 21st century infrastructure and networks, are crucial for the development of the country,” said Andrés Ibarra, Argentine Minister of Modernisation, at the event “Digital Economy Forum: Driving Growth, Regional Trade and Inclusion in Latin America”, organised in Buenos Aires in conjunction with the GSMA and ECLAC. Held alongside the Eleventh WTO Ministerial Conference, the event brought together key executives from digital ecosystem companies such as AT&T, Google, Mercado Libre and Telefónica, and representatives from regulatory bodies, including the ICT Secretariat of Argentina, FTI Mexico, ICC and UNCTAD, during panels addressing the regional digital market, the new regulatory agendas in some of the region’s leading economies, and trade and competition policies in the digital world.
