Key regional participation in Ministerial Programme and Conferences
CEOs and senior managers of América Móvil, Millicom, Telefónica, Telecom Argentina and TIM Brasil were leading participants in the key discussion of the Ministerial Programme at MWC18, the meeting place in Barcelona where the most influential companies in the mobile ecosystem and ICT ministers from around the world come together. The session “Embedding sustainability into mobile business models” was opened by Sebastián Cabello, Head of Latin America, GSMA, and included a series of discussions about the future of the mobile industry and how technology is contributing to the SDGs.

Digital gender equality at Commission on the Status of Women of the United Nations
As Topic Chair of the Digital Inclusion theme for Women 20 (W20) Argentina 2018, the GSMA played an active role in the 62nd session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW62), held from 12 to 23 March at the Headquarters of the United Nations, in New York. During a week of discussion about gender equality and empowerment of women, Paula Ferrari, Marketing Director Latin America, GSMA, took part in the talk on the W20 agenda, organised by Americas Society/Council of the Americas. Susana Balbo, Chair of W20 Argentina, was the key speaker during the high-level roundtable organised by the GSMA in partnership with UN Women, ITU, ITC, the European Union and missions from Argentina and Germany.

Cartagena hosts CLT preparatory meeting ahead of CLT in Cuba
Registration is now open for Latin American Telecommunications Congress 2018, on from 11 al 15 June in Varadero. Before the event, a preparatory meeting (CLTx) will be held on Friday 20 April in Cartagena, during the Sixth Ministerial Conference on the Information Society, organised by ECLAC.

GSMA joins COMTELCA as Observer Member
Central American telecoms commission (COMTELCA) is an integration body that coordinates and harmonises the development of the telecommunications and ICT industry in the region. The GSMA will contribute the vision of the mobile ecosystem and its impact on socioeconomic development in the region.

Digital Inclusion under discussion at CITEL assembly
During the Seventh Assembly of the Inter-American Telecommunication Commission (CITEL), in Buenos Aires, a meeting was held on Digital Inclusion for Development in the Americas. Sebastián Cabello took part in the panel on the transformations needed to promote the digital revolution.

WEF for Latin America: technology to bank the region
The World Economic Forum (WEF) for Latin America, held in São Paulo this week, included the participation of Sebastián Cabello as moderator of the session on income inequality and how technology can be used to bank the unbanked.
