CLT18, held in Cuba, brought together Latin American ministers, regulatory authorities, academics and ICT industry executives, and representatives from international organisations, at the region’s leading event for discussion on digital public policy. Hosted by the Ministry of Communications of Cuba and Cuban telecoms provider ETECSA, the meeting covered topics including digital infrastructure development and investment promotion, the regional digital market, privacy and the new data economy, the importance of spectrum, innovation and public strategies for digitising production, internet governance, consolidation and new market structures, and sustainability and SDGs.

GSMA and W20 support digital gender equality
Digital inclusion round table in Paris: Recommendations to G20
Following the digital inclusion round table held in Paris during the OECD Forum, and with the support of the Embassy of Argentina in  France, the GSMA backed recommendations on women’s digital inclusion for presentation to G20 leaders. The GSMA is Digital Inclusion Topic Chair for Women 20, which advises the G20 on gender equality and women’s economic empowerment in line with Sustainable Development Goal 5.

Women 20 Latam Outreach Workshop in São Paulo
Held on 11 and 12 June in Brazil, the aim of W20 Latam Outreach Workshop was to promote the public policy recommendations on the future of work and the mobile gender gap for presentation to G20 leaders. With the participation of Paula Ferrari, Regional Marketing Director Latin America, GSMA, the workshop included representatives from the private sector and civil society. Participants shared experiences and analysed the distinctive characteristics of the region.

The future of 5G and IoT at Huawei Latam ICT Forum
The state of the regional mobile ecosystem and spectrum and regulation challenges for the development of 5G and IoT were the main topics of the keynote by Alejandro Adamowicz, Technology Director Latin America, GSMA, at the Huawei Latam ICT Forum, held on 12 and 13 June in San José, Costa Rica.

Mobile industry supports child protection
The International Summit on Child Protection in Travel and Tourism was held on 6 and 7 June in Bogotá, Colombia. Mauro Accurso, Communications & Sustainability Manager Latin America, GSMA, spoke about mobile industry activities during a panel on the impact of digital environments on children.

From 13 to 20 June in Cancún, Mexico, a meeting was held of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) group “Working Party 5D (WP 5D) - IMT Systems”. The event included the participation of Lucas Gallitto, Public Policy Director Latin America, GSMA.
