AfricaCom 2012 – Cape Town, South Africa, November 13, 2012 – Comviva, the global leader in providing mobile VAS and financial solutions, today announced that it now dominates the prepaid recharge market with over 55 deployments, replacing 9 electronic recharge systems of mobile operators across Africa, Middle East, Latin America and Asia and is set to further penetrate the prepaid recharge market with the introduction of PreTUPS™ 6.0 and the launch of a new set of features inline with the market needs.

Used by leading GSM and CDMA operators in 39 countries and with over 700 million subscribers worldwide, PreTUPS™ is a market proven solution that handles more than 16 billion recharge transactions annually. In Africa, the solution has been deployed by all major operator groups and is being used by subscribers in 22 countries to recharge their airtime

Comviva has enhanced the features and capabilities of its widely deployed, scalable and robust multi-channel electronic recharge solution in its latest version – PreTUPS™ 6.0. The solution now enables both physical and electronic top-up, empowering operators to manage the complete life cycle – including voucher generation, administration and consumption. It also offers consumer focused services such as extending credit to subscribers with a low balance via the Top Me Up feature and recovering the amount on the next top-up. Similarly, to guard their privacy, subscribers can create an alias (a customer ID) from their handset and use this as an identifier when topping-up their account. With its P2P feature, subscribers can also send airtime to friends and family members, thereby making gifting and sharing of airtime easier.

Speaking on this achievement Srinivas Nidugondi, Vice President, Mobile Financial Solutions, Comviva, commented, “For a vast  community of prepaid subscribers across the globe, our PreTUPS™ prepaid recharge solution provides easy access to talk time. It is our expansive reach, proven experience and innovative offerings that have enabled us to lead the prepaid recharge market across the Globe. We see the many replacement deals that we have won, as confirmation of this.”

“Our new version will add value with features that allows Operators to extend credit to subscribers with a low balance, to ensure uninterrupted service availability and thereby avoid churn. This feature is hugely popular in many markets, such as Africa, where 30% of a leading operator’s VAS revenues come from this service alone. Further, Comviva plans to add new features such as operator billing and charging, auto top-up and top-up through social networking sites like Facebook in its next version, further added Mr. Nidugondi.

PreTUPS™ is a widely deployed, highly scalable and available prepaid recharge solution that helps operators streamline and enhance their prepaid recharge operations, whilst improving access, convenience, and service delivery for existing subscribers. With PreTUPS™, customers have the flexibility of topping up their talk-time at retailer outlets as well as via other self-service channels including their mobile phones, ATMs, Internet and kiosks using a variety of methods (STK, Web, client app, SMS and USSD). This delivers greater convenience to prepaid users.
